I found this book in the boots library this book includes images of 150 waistcoats and detailed explanations of the techniques and fabrics used, and sometimes images of who wore the garments.
"Alan and Vanessa Hopkins have been collecting historical clothing, textiles and accessories in the United Kingdom for more than forty years. Their Collection spans a period from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries and includes items representing all social classes although, as poorer people wore out their clothes, the bulk of the Collection is inevitably from the better-off part of society"
The waistcoats on page 26 as well as a few others have pocket flaps that are purely decorative, I would like to include this in my design if time allows as it will add decoration and save me time in the construction process. This particular waistcoat is decorated using and 18th century embroidery technique called knotting which is created by making knots evenly along thread and then this is couched onto the fabric or used as a fringe. I would like to sample this technique and potentially include it within my design as it creates an beautiful raised effect.
