Using masking tape to create a pattern out of a 3D object

This technique can be used to create a flat pattern from any 3D object. Simply cover the object in a thin layer of masking tape, then score and remove the individual flat masking tape shapes from the object. These shapes can then be copied to create a paper pattern which can then be scaled up or down as desired. I found this technique very simple, easy and effective and I look forward to using it in my future work. For my below example I create a pattern for a small Pumpkin I realised that I could create darts in the pattern pieces to create more shape and limit the number of pattern pieces required.
